CERTIFICATE IN BANKING AND FINANCIAL SERVICES (CBFS)

This course takes one and a half years leading to the award of Certificate in Banking & Financial Services. The course is divided into three semesters of five months each, with exams in May & November. The 8 subjects offered are:

1.   Elements of Banking
2.   Business Communications
3.   Economics
4.   Introduction to Law Relating to Banking & Finance
5.   Foreign Exchange and International Trade
6.   Accounting
7.   Business Calculations
8.   Marketing and Customer Service


Minimum entry requirements

O-Level Mean Grade of C with C in English and C in either Mathematics, Accounting,
Commerce or Economics.

O-Level Division II, with Credit 6 in English and Credit 6 in either Mathematics or
Principles of Accounts

A-Level with Principle E in Maths or Economics and a Subsidiary in General Paper
Credits in Bridging for Certificate in Banking & Financial Services

1st Semester January - April
2nd Semester June - October


ASSOCIATE OF KENYA INSTITUTE OF BANKERS (AKIB)

The School offers tuition to students preparing for examinations leading to the award of
AKIB. The course takes two and a half years divided into five semesters of four months
each with examinations being done at the end of each semester i.e. in May and October.

Students are required to register and pass a total of nine subjects, of which, seven are
core and two are optional.

3.   Financial Reporting Analysis and Planning
4.   Management and Organisation
5.   Strategic Marketing Management
6.   International Trade Finance
7.   Law & Practice Relating to Banking and Finance


Optional Subjects (take any 2)

1.   Financial Management
2.   Law and Practice for Mortgage Lenders
3.   Insurance
4.   Investments
5.   Taxation


Minimum entry Requirements
- Certificate in Banking and Financial Services or

- University degree from a recognised university or

- Acceptable professional qualification e.g. Final Stage CPA (K), CPS (K) or

- Banking Certificate (U.K) or

- The Pre-Associateship Certificate or

- The Certificate of Financial Services Practice or

- Certificate in Building Society Practice
