Preamble The Financial Sector is increasingly seeking for technologically and professionally well equipped international financial professionals. The master’s programme in Financial Economics has a unique multidisciplinary approach that integrates the fields of finance, economics and quantitative techniques. MFE programme provides outstanding training in the tools of financial economics in demand by private and public institutions. Admission Requirements: A candidate must satisfy any of the following minimum requirements in addition to specific programme requirements: Either a) Be a holder of a Bachelors degree in either finance, economics, or any other equivalent field with at least Upper Second Class honours or its equivalent from an institution recognized by the University Senate. Or b) Be a holder of a Bachelors degree in either finance, economics, or any other equivalent field with Lower Second Class honours provided the candidate can show proven evidence of research ability and/or three (3) years experience in a relevant field. Or c) Be a holder of a Bachelors degree in either finance, economics, or any other equivalent field with a PASS or its equivalent from any institution recognized by the University Senate provided such candidates have proven research ability and/or relevant work experience of five (5) years. Or d) Be a holder of Postgraduate Diploma in Business Sciences of KSMS/JKUAT will be admitted with exemption of at most six (6) units offered in the first two semesters of the Masters and only equivalent in content and bear the same codes as those offered at Masters level. e) Possession of the minimum entry requirements does not guarantee automatic admission to the Masters degree. Programme Objectives: The board objectives of the MFE programme is to provide a solid Foundation, for the participants, in the area of Financial Economics. At the end of this programme, participants will be able to among others to: i) Apply economic and econometric tools on contemporary financial issues. ii) Acquire subject-specific skills for employment or further study. iii) To acquire the ability to design public policies. Target Audience This programme targets those working or intending to work in multinational corporations, banks, private equity houses, insurance companies, asset management institutions and government institutions such as central banks and offices of the budget.
