KSMS was established to provide capacity building programmes for the financial sector in Kenya and the region.  The School’s establishment was a response to the need to design and offer programmes hitherto run by the defunct College of Banking and Finance. The School has successfully undertaken this mandate and offered programmes in Banking and IT at Certificate and Diploma levels for over 10 years.

However, due to the increasingly sophisticated demands of the financial sector, the School has had to give a fresh look at its training portfolio.  In this regard, the School has proactively pursued strategies that would enable it to offer varoius capacity building programmes.  One such strategy is to establish collaborative arrangements with universities sharing in the School’s vision to offer degree programmes in banking, finance and related fields.

It is through such arrangements that KSMS secured an African Capacity Building Foundation (ACBF) grant to offer the first-ever, stakeholder driven Masters of Banking and Finance in Collaboration with Moi University targeting the Eastern and Southern Africa region.  Under this collaboration, the School also offers its unique Postgraduate Diploma in Financial Management

In addition to this, the School, in its endivour to be the epicenter for novel  collaborative capacity building  programmes with renowned local and international Universities, signed a collaboration agreements to offer programmes targeting economic, financial economics, economic management policy, public policy, credit management, treasury management, financial engineering and real estate management  areas.  Like the MBF programmes, these KSMS/JKUAT programmes are meant to strengthen human capacity in Kenya and the region.

A  part from the  collaborate programmes, the School , will, effective September 2010 roll out the first ever Kenya Institute Validated and Ministry of Higher Education approved multilingual Diploma in Business Sciences programme in the  areas of Islamic financial services, Banking and financial services, Organizational development,  Microfinance, Business Information Technology and  Finance.  This programmes will be examined and certificates awarded by the Kenya School of Monetary Studies and mandated by the Ministry.
