               Academic Programmes


BACKGROUND

The Kenya School of Monetary Studies has continued to expand the range of training programs in order to meet the ever growing demand for capacity building for the financial sector both in Kenya and the wider sub-saharan region. Through the Academic Division, the School introduced four new Masters programs and a Postgraduate Diploma in Business Sciences to be offered beginning January, 2011 in collaboration with the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture & Technology (JKUAT). This is in addition to two existing postgraduate programs, namely Masters in Banking & Finance (MBF) and Postgraduate Diploma in Financial Management (PGDFM) offered in collaboration with Moi University as well as Certificate and Diploma Professional programs offered at the School’s professional centre - Town Campus.


In the past, the School’s programs have tended to target those working  or intending to work in the financial sectors in Kenya & the wider Eastern African region. It is in line with this that KSMS has introduced a unique multilingual Diploma in Business Sciences program. This phenomenal growth witnesses by the expanding range of programs being offered by the School has occasioned the need to create  a new section within the Academic Division called Business & Industry Connection Centre (BICC).

THE INNOVATION

The BICC has been created out of the realization that the training need of the financial sector for which the School endeavors to build capacity, has continued to increase and evolve due to the changing business environment characterized by sophisticated global economic changes inherent in which are an intense competitive environment, increased customer awareness and demand for quality service. Capacity building initiative through training programs are, in the circumstance challenged to embrace dynamic and practical oriented curriculum that equips students with hands-on skills. The Academic Programs offered by the School have been modeled to address this challenge. In particular, an integral component is an internship component that is intended to enable students to acquire hands-on experiences in the workplace and give them the opportunity to test the theoretical skills gained from the classroom.
